The Price is not affected by the style chosen but does give the client more satisfaction with what they have chosen.
Pricing structure is determined by the type and size of materials used, labour and postage and packing. As all portraits are highly custom designed for the individual client's needs a set price frame is unable to be placed on this website. Instead I require the client to

Please note that no one photo is ever capable of conveying the best of a subject. Portrait commissions are usually worked from several photos of the subject. If you do not have the photo I can take the photo for you if the subject comes to my studio. Children and Pets need to be painted by photo.
The Setting for your portrait will be determined by the style or mood of the painting.
A conservative portrait will require backdrops that are usually darker or quieter in colours and if in the home more traditional furnishings.
A lighter mood type portrait will be more colourful in backdrops. Colours and lighting play a big part setting the mood of a portrait. Furnishing props are important as well.
Energetic moods: choose vibrant colours which can be stronger ex reds, hot pinks, electric blues
Conservative moods: choose darker colours ex browns or deep blues, dark reds etc
Dreamy or happy moods:
These can be light pastel pinks, blues, greens, yellows.
If a dreamy pose then this might have a darker backdrop as the subject is more internalising their world and it is private.
Leadership qualities in a portrait: The expression of the subjects face will show this but strong reds will also help to set the mood. Which leads to the angle the subject is painted from

We have discussed how colours, lighting, furnishings play a part in setting the scene but the ANGLE OF THE PORTRAIT is equally important. Taking the photo from different angles - front on, sideways, from different angles lends itself to the interpretation of the portrait. Example a portrait of a leader will be photographed or pose from an angle where we are looking up to that person. An angle where we are looking down of children at play shows we are look down into their world.
Childrens Portraits for birthday, wedding, baby shower, family portraits, wedding anniversary gift ideas. The best childrens or family portrait painter is important to commission as Memorable Portraits mark the milestones in a child's development from babies and children through to teenagers and adults. Birthday parties, weddings, first day at school, graduations, their first pet-dog or cat, sports or academic achievements can be made a momentos occasion with a heirloom portrait that can be kept for posterity. Often times photos fail to capture all that needs to be said about the child as in their hobbies, interests and endearing habits. Where a photo of a family often fails to capture all the children in the best expressions a group portrait easily expresses the loving unity of a family.
Charcoal Painting: Many prefer Portraits that don't rely so much on colour to convey the mood but the simplicity of tones. Charcoal or Pastel Pencils are wonderful for this. Here is an example of two Paintings that I have done. One in Charcoal another in Pastel Pencil. You can see that the Sepia tones gives the portrait a warmer look. There is some hint of other colours but it is not noticeable.
Choosing Charcoal or Sepia pastel portraits is very helpful if your photo source is old and does not portray the correct colouring of the subject.
Pastel Portrait Commissioned Paintings are done from the highest professional quality Pastels on the finest surface. These portraits will need to be framed in glass and mounted away from direct sunlight as sunlight on the glass will cause condensation to occur and the moisture build up will harm the portrait. Whether you decide to commission your painting in Pastel Pencils or a coloured Pastel Portrait you will find that the lasting quality will far outstride Oil Paints. Pastels are pure pigment with not real additives and will never need to be retouched with the passing of years while Oil paintings will need retouching in 50yrs or so.

Oil Painting Commission Portraits are done on professional quality canvas. The Oil Paints I use are mostly Winsor and Newton Professional Grade. Oil Paintings cost about the same price in framing as Pastels. The advantage Oil Painting Portraits have over Pastel Portraits is that they are not as limited in size and they do not need glass in the framing process. Therefore they are not as heavy.
